Civility and Respect at the Top of the Agenda

We are delighted to announce that we have adopted the Civility and Respect Pledge for local authorities.

Throughout the public sector, there are growing concerns about the impact that bullying, harassment, and intimidation are having on parish and town councils, councillors, clerks and council staff and the resulting loss of effectiveness in these local authorities.

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC), One Voice Wales (OVW), the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) and County Associations have responded to this by setting up a Civility and Respect Working Group to oversee the Civility and Respect Project.

Local councils play a key role in our communities, and it is essential that we can work together in an environment that is respectful, professional and free from bullying and harassment.

We are committed to making positive changes that support civil and respectful conduct, and will continue to learn from and apply best practice within the sector.
