Volunteers
Volunteers are the at the heart of our projects. Come and be a part of something meaningful.
Why volunteer?
- Play a part in keeping our community connected
- Meet new people and support our local projects
- A small commitment with a big impact
Community Speed Watch
Community Speed Watch is a national initiative where members of the community collaborate with local police to reduce speeding in areas of concern. Volunteers use approved speed detection devices to record vehicles exceeding the limit.
What happens next?
- Drivers who exceed the speed limit are initially contacted by letter.
- Repeat offenders and those severely breaking the speed limit may be visited by their local police, regardless of where they live.
Why is it important?
The scheme isn't about reporting our neighbours. It is a proactive, community-led initiative that aims to improve road safety and create a calmer and more welcoming environment for our community.
Police forces across the country implementing the scheme can show a proven, significant reduction in drivers travelling above the speed limit, demonstrating the positive impact of the initiative.
Our Speed Watch team
We are proud to have a dedicated team of volunteers give their valuable time, rain or shine, to raise awareness of speeding in Martlesham. They rotate around key areas of the community to encourage drivers to drive responsibly.
Our SID Team
We have two fixed SID (speed indicator detector) devices, and one movable device that our committed group of volunteers strategically place to promote safer driving throughout Martlesham.
Get Involved
We are always looking for volunteers who care about their community. No experience is needed, just a commitment to making our streets safer. Your contribution can make real difference.
If you are interested in joining or learning more - we would love to hear from you!
Play Space Inspections
Our play spaces are at the heart of our community, giving children a safe place to explore, imagine and grow. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, these spaces are regularly inspected to ensure that all equipment is in good working order and safe for use.
Their efforts support our Annual Check of play equipment across Martlesham, and ensure that we can keep these areas open and welcome for families all year round. Their commitment means that play remains possible, safe and fun for all.
Our play spaces include:
Recreation Ground - The Street, Old Martlesham
Jubilee Play Space - off Black Tiles Lane
Centenary Play Space - by Gorseland Primary School, Martlesham Heath
Harry Higgins Play Space - behind the Pavilion on The Green at Martlesham Heath
Direction and training will be provided together with an understanding of what to look out for and how to report this to our office team.
By joining our volunteer team, you will be making a difference to the wellbeing of local children and vibrancy of our community. As a play inspector, we would suggest that an hour a week be volunteered for inspections.
If you would like to get involved, please reach out - together we can keep Martlesham's play spaces thriving.
Parish Council Noticeboard Monitors
The Parish Council noticeboards are a vital way of sharing local news and activities that the council are involved with across our community. They help to keep residents informed about what is happening in Martlesham .
Our small group of friendly volunteers help to keep these boards up to date by:
- Posting Parish Council news and activities
- Refreshing posters and flyers for events and projects
- Making sure that information is clear, accessible and welcoming.
